I have been giving my clinics for 10 years now. I designed them as a way of helping riders to prepare for competition, address specific problems they might have encountered or help those seeking to make general progress and enjoyment with their horse.
I aim to make these days informative and fun. I hold them in small groups, and depending on the subject there can be between 2 and 4 riders to a group. I carefully configure each group so that similar interest, abilities or issues learn together. Each rider has a morning and afternoon lesson with lunch in between. Moreover, I make every effort to involve every rider all through the day – so that each can learn from the others.
CROSS-COUNTRY CLINICS
These sessions are done in small groups of similar levels for maximum benefit, and include the course hire of £25. They start with the basics, looking at the rider’s balance, position and ability to change gears smoothly and easily before moving on to jumping suitable sequences of cross-country jumps for you and your horse. There is a good variety of well-built fences at the well-known and popular Aston-Le-Walls Event course, which runs all levels of affiliated horse trials, as well as unaffiliated ones throughout the year.

SHOWJUMPING WITH VIDEO ANALYSIS CLINICS
My aim is to see you jumping clear, confident rounds over showjumps. This is a full day’s tuition with high individual attention – just 2 per group. Your day starts with how to walk a course and how to warm up, followed by jumping a full course at your chosen height which will be videoed. Over lunch we watch and analyze your videoed showjumping round. Your afternoon lesson is based on the assessment from the morning and is tailored specifically to suit you and your horse.
‘SEEING-A-STRIDE’ CLINICS
My aim is to build your confidence as you approach and jump any kind of fence. This full day’s clinic cuts through the myths. In the morning, in maximum groups of 3, I explain theory and practice as you jump some simple routines starting with poles on the ground to improve your “eye” immediately. After lunch we continue at a pace entirely to suit you with your jumping different fences in the arena – and deal not only with getting it right, but how to cope when it goes wrong! This is a very good clinic whatever level you are, and is especially beneficial for horses and riders who may be seeking to improve their confidence. Above all, riders come to realize how important the quality of the canter is to jumping a good round.
“HOW TO BEAT THE JUDGE!”
Ride a test of your choice and be judged. Then go through your test marks and reasons behind them immediately afterwards, followed by a session in the arena to help you gain marks in the short term as well as training exercises for longer term improvement.
